oHCM
I was diagnosed two years ago with obstructive hydrotrophic cardiomyopathy. It means that a muscle in my left ventricle is enlarged and obstructs the blood flow into my aorta. I also have some calcification of the aortic valve. It’s a genetic condition. My mother had it.
My cardiologist wants me to go on Camzyos. I’ve read about it but would like to hear from people who have had experience with the drug. I don’t like taking medications and have been fortunate in my 78 yrs to only take a thyroid med and metoporol to slow my heartbeat due to the oHCM.
He just told me how the drug works. Said I had 3 options. Camzyos, open heart surgery (I also have some calcification of my aortic valve) or a heart attack. After seeing the side affects and hearing how expensive Camzyos is, I have much skepticism. The thing is, the only real symptom I have is shortness of breath. No fainting, dizziness, pain, rapid heartbeat, or high blood pressure.
From the way you are describing your interactions with your doctor, I would also want more information. Have you considered a second opinion? That would give you a chance to review what your first doctor is saying so you can make a decision. All the best, Kathy (Team member)
Actually, I’ve been having a feeling I should seek a second opinion. I’m so on the fence about Camzyos. I’m not one who is in favor of taking a lot of medicine. But on the other hand I need to do the right thing. I’m just confused about what that is. Thank you for giving me a push.

According to the Camzyos website, CAMZYOS was specifically designed to target myosin, a type of protein, to reduce the obstruction.
