Statins for High Cholesterol

I think at least one of my adult children has a higher than normal cholesterol level. It’s possible more than one of my children has it also, but I don’t know what the other adult children’s cholesterol levels are.

My husband was put on a statin

My husband was told to take a statin as well. His cholesterol level has always been below 150, and I thought that was considered normal, but our cardiologist put him on a statin because he wants it lower. I’m not sure I understand that. I don’t know that really enough is known about cholesterol levels and what is normal and what needs to be treated.

Do we have enough research on statins?

My husband's not too happy about taking it, either. He is 79 years of age. I have read that many seniors in this country are on statins. I wonder how necessary that is. Do we really have enough research to know that all these people need to have statins and that their levels may not be as abnormal as some cardiologists seem to think? I would like to see more research on this.
