Christy Amos

Christy was just 28 years old when she had her first DVT/PE. After an extensive ankle surgery she developed significant clots in her leg, which resulted in a submassive pulmonary embolism. A year and a half later she developed a second pulmonary embolism as a result of a superficial thrombosis. Now on anticoagulation for the rest of her life, Christy shares her experience with this life-threatening condition, how it has affected her personally and mentally, and how she continues to cope with her diagnosis.

Christy spent a lot of time learning about and working in the medical field. She became a certified EMT after her freshman year of college, and shortly thereafter became a CPR/First Aid instructor, teaching both layperson and medical professionals. Christy studied pre-medical sciences as an undergrad but ultimately decided to pursue a degree in professional counseling. She enjoys being able to connect with people on an interpersonal level. Despite her multiple chronic illnesses, she maintains a positive outlook on life and strives to share her joy and resilience with others. She loves being able to listen to others who are dealing with chronic illness and provide encouragement to them.

Christy enjoys being creative and finds making things with her hands to be one of her greatest coping mechanisms. She has spent the last few years honing her skills as a miniaturist, building and furnishing an elaborate Victorian dollhouse. She also enjoys painting, calligraphy, and sewing.
