A-Fib

I had high cholesterol for years in the high 200s which I assume I inherited from my mother whose numbers were in the 400s.

Being tested for high cholesterol

I was probably in my 40s, maybe later, when I was tested. I did not see a cardiologist or get regular physical exams until after after I turned 65.

Seeing a doctor regularly

Interestingly, my mother never had a diagnosis of any cardiac problems, so I did not worry about my high levels. It wasn’t until I was 65 that I started to have regular doctor appointments. I am 78 years of age today.

A trip to the ER

Then one day, maybe 3 years years ago (after doing nothing about my high cholesterol) I was home and had a bout of sudden weakness and had to sit down on the floor. I called my doctor and went to the emergency room.

Starting medication for AFib

I spent one maybe 2 nights there. A lot of tests were done by my cardiologist and I started medications for atrial fibrillation (AFib).

Fast forward about 3 years, and my cholesterol levels are within normal range. I no longer have AFib symptoms at all. I do take these meds twice a day. That can be a chore in all honesty!

Basically, that is my story.
